Alcohol and Drug Rehab - Learn Reasons and Tactics to Shed Away the Negativity from Life

Scientists have concluded that alcoholism and drug addiction are parallel to other diseases. These are equally harmful and chronic and those who are under the influence of these are subjected to relapse. Medically, it has been said that addiction is compared to diabetes and it requires longer stay in rehab.

Scientists say that with only one rehab treatment, one can’t expect to recover from the alcohol and drug addiction sooner. Also, a professor with a research institute shows with its research that around 80 percent of the addicted people experience the returning of detox and drug within a year.

Scientists have made some detailed discoveries about why addicts and alcoholics are prone to relapse even when treated with rehab centers. The first reason they said is “CRAVING”. Research has shown that cravings are directly related to the changes in brain function. It explains that the brain has become addictive to drugs and alcohol that it stops functioning effectively without it.

Secondly, they discover that cravings may be conditioned response that hit the minds of drug and alcohol addicts. Relapse triggers bring a strong emotional and physical reaction that builds an urge to have drugs or alcohol again and again. The relapse condition is not necessarily related to the fact that they have used it repeatedly, instead the quantity and regularity that impact the most even before they start to recover.

A practical examination is conducted on rats by a renowned doctor. What he did was to prevent rats from consuming alcohol for three or four days and then he again let them consume alcohol, what he noticed is that rats started consuming 50% more alcohol as compared to the quantity they had before. Such behavior is visible in people also.

It is also proved that early relapse can be a great educational tool. This reasons that the addicted person will relearn the practice of rehab programs with more dedication and motivation than ever before.
